Wiki Article
Halloween 3 the tag-line for "Witchcraft enters the computer age, and a different terror begins." reads.
Halloween 3: Season of the Witch, which was released in 1982, was not well received by fans of the first two Halloween films. The reason for this is as unlike their predecessors, the ruthless villain Michael Myers was not present in this version of the film.
Carpenter and Hill established an annual Halloween anthology with Halloween 3. I wish they would have developed the idea further. No dice.
When Dr. Daniel Challis (Tom Atkins) is laying in bed with a masked patient who has been taken into the hospital holding a Halloween mask, he finds himself in the heart of a peculiar murder investigation. It all begins the day before Halloween, when the patient was brought into the hospital.
Ellie, the deceased guy's daughter, visits the Silver Shamrock, which makes the world's most popular Halloween mask. Thanks to their strong marketing effort (with a catchy tune), Silver Shamrock Company has sold millions of masks in the US.
(Fact: The Silver Shamrock facility was actually based in an old milk factory.)
Furthermore, they are encouraging children to attend a special Halloween night show while still dressed up. However, when Dr. Challis and Ellie delve more into the subject, they learn that Conal Cochran (Dan O'Herlihy), the CEO of Silver Shamrock, is planning something that, if successful, would result in the deaths of thousands, if not millions, of innocent people.
Despite the fact that Myers, Loomis, Laurie Strode, and Haddonfield, IL do not appear in Halloween 3 in any capacity, other than in a few brief scenes where the original Halloween played on tv, Halloween III: Season of the Witch is still a fun film in its own right.
There's a bad allusion to Stonehenge in the film, link here but it contains numerous memorable sequences, such when Cochran tests his idea on Buddy Kupfer's family, a salesman who sold so many masks.
As Buddy’s son Little Buddy is placed in a small room, he puts on a Silver Shamrock mask and watches a program scheduled for Halloween night. There is something you won’t soon forget when things take an uncontrollable turn, resulting in carnage. Conal Cochran’s history lesson will also stick in your mind, as he discusses the true origin of Halloween.
I like the Halloween franchise, particularly those that followed Halloween III: Season of the Witch which were based on storylines featuring Michael Myers once more. I don't know about you, but I can't help but wonder what tales John Carpenter and Debra Hill would have told if they had followed through with their initial concept for the Halloween series.
Really, I don't blame anyone for not embracing Halloween III: Season of the Witch. For me, the fault is with whoever added the number "3" to it.
The flat out misstep of Carpenter's premise is evident at this point, but the fact that I adored Halloween 3 makes it all the more difficult to accept.
The film was directed by Tom Lee Wallace.
Dan O'Herlihy, Tom Atkins, and Stacey Nelkin star.
